Avicenna News

  • AKC Palestine has produced 23 modules and those modules are to be used by nearly 23000 students by the end of the academic year 2006/2007 as it is currently installed on the Avicenna Platform (Pleiad).

    During Phase 1 to Phase 3, we have organized 10 workshops for authors and 3 for tutors. We have also organized a nation-wide ICT day (Nov 2005) attended by large number of dignitaries where the first batch of produced courses were officially opened. In all, 50 authors and more than 100 tutors were trained.
  • Conferences and Seminars
    Here is a list of activities, conferences and seminars organized in a chorological order:
    1. Hellenic Conference on IT, Greece Oct 2004. We submitted a paper titled "Implementation of E-Learning in Al-Quds Open University" and printed in the conference proceedings (TOM B) (page 327-332). A sizable part of the paper discussed the implementation of Avicenna at the university.
    2. An official World Bank visit to the university (Jan 2005) in which Avicenna project was disseminated.
    3. LEARNTEC Conference, Germany Feb 2005.
    4. PEACE Program Conference at Bethlehem University, Palestine March 2005.
    5. Eumedis gathering, Dead Sea in April 2005.
    6. PICTI workshops (Palestinian ICT Incubator) in April & May 2005 in which 800 students and tutors took part. Avicenna project was on the agenda.
    7. British Council VC 2 gathering on E-Learning in Palestine Sept 2005. Palestinian as well as British participants discussed the need for moving ahead with the E-Learning practices and benefiting from the European experience. AKC Palestine disseminated Avicenna objectives to the audience.
    8. ICT Day, Nov 2005 where Avicenna Courses were launched.
    9. Online Educa Berlin 2005. AKC Palestine took part in this gathering and presented a paper on QOU E-learning experience.
    10. Tempus Project Workshop Dec 2005. European & Palestinian Academics met to rally the largest possible group of participant from universities to elaborate in a project for open & distance Education (RUFO). AKC Palestine disseminated Avicenna during this meeting.
    11. Palestinian Education Initiative (PEI), Dec 2005. Group of Palestinian experts and other invited guests met to develop a framework and procedures to move ahead with the implementation of PEI including the adoption of E-Learning strategies for Palestinian schools and universities.
    12. Training Session for authors, May 2006. A round 50 authors took part.
    13. Training Session for tutors. June 2006.
    14. 4th video conference in E-Learning exchanges between Palestinian universities and British Universities organized by the British Council Sept 2006. AKC Palestine made a presentation on how it worked with the Avicenna authors.
    15. The implementation of E-Learning at Al-Quds Open University (QOU), 4th Conference on e-learning Applications, The American University in Cairo (AUC), 3-4 Jan,2006, Cairo-Egypt.
    16. The Experiment of AlQuds Open University (QOU) in Open Distance Learning (ODL) using New Technologies, IODL 2006 Conference, Anadolu University 13-15 Spet., 2006, Eskishier, Turkey
  • AKC Palestine is invited to attend the 1st EUMEDIS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, scheduled by next April 17th and 18th in Jordan to present part of the online course produced.
  • 12 Authors have been contracted to produce the first module of the following courses of the Information and Communication Technology Specialization:
    • Multimedia (Course #1265)
    • Web Technology & Design (Course #1266)
    • Local Area Networks & Intranet (Course #1373)
    • Simulation (Course #1378)
    • Visual Programming (Course #1377)

    Hopefully some of these online courses will be shortly available to students
